Hot-Glass Experience (2 Hours)
This is an opportunity to experience hot glass; creation of a paperweight, ornament or vase will be demonstrated, and then participants will be able to design and create one of their own.
Glassblowing Survey (7 Hours)
The Glassblowing Survey class runs from 9:00 - 4:00 on Saturday, including an hour lunch break from noon till 1:00. Before lunch the class will concentrate on solid work, some basic glassworking skills and the students will make their own paperweights. After lunch, the class will progress into blown forms and some more advanced skills. The final project for the class is a drinking glass.
Introductory Glassblowing I (4 Weeks)
If you´d like to try working with hot glass for the first time or would like a refresher course, this is the class for you. We start with an introduction to glassblowing tools and equipment as well as basic techniques. Every week, a different form will be taught. Lots of exercises and hands-on time is provided to build a solid foundation of skills.
Introductory Glassblowing II (4 Weeks)
This class begins where the Introductory I class leaves off. After concluding this class, students should have enough confidence and skill to rent time and work with a partner. More advanced forms will be taught as well as some color techniques.
Production Line Workshop (4 Weeks)
There is one sure way to improve glassblowing skill: practice, practice, practice. This class is designed to give students as much hands-on time as possible. Each week, a form and design will be chosen by the class and the class will work out an efficient means to produce this form. Since all work produced within this class is a team effort, the work will be split up among the students. This class is recommended for students who have completed Introductory Glassblowing II or have equivalent experience.
Advanced Drinking Vessels (8 Weeks)
This class will focus on goblets and other drinking vessels from different traditions of glassmaking. Complicated forms will be constructed from parts that are kept ready for use in the garage. This highly technical class is recommended for intermediate and advanced students.
Fun With Glass (4 Weeks)
Several ´non-traditional´ techniques of shaping and decorating glass will be explored in this class. Sculpting of solid glass will be explored, as will casting (and blowing) glass into sand molds, and incorporation of copper elements into the hot glass form. This class will benefit not only beginning students, but intermediate as well. We suggest that any students who have completed Intro I consider this class.
Glass Casting (4 Weeks)
