Das Projekt Furnace for the Future, kurz F4F, wurde gecancelt und das dahinter stehende europäische Glaskonsortium aufgelöst.
2023 sollte die weltweit erste Elektro-Schmelzwanne mit einer Kapazität von 350 tato in Produktion gehen und Mengen in den Markt liefern. Hinter dem Projekt, das im April 2020 angekündigt worden war, standen insgesamt 20 Glashersteller, die 90 % des europäischen Marktes für Verpackungsglas ausmachen. Die Leitung hatte der in Luxemburg ansässige Metall- und Glasverpackungskonzern Ardagh übernommen. Im April 2021 entschied die Gruppe, die Wanne am Ardagh-Standort in Obernkirchen zu bauen. Das Projekt wurde inzwischen gecancelt.
Leider habe sich im Laufe dieses Jahres der F4F-Ofen als kein finanziell tragfähiges Projekt herausgestellt, heißt es gegenüber EUWID . Es sei nicht gelungen, eine Förderung aus dem EU-Innovationsfonds zu erhalten. Infolgedessen wurde das Konsortium der Glasbranche, das dieses Projekt umsetzen wollte, aufgelöst.
