Director, NYS Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology

Description

The School of Ceramic Engineering and Materials Science offers three undergraduate degree options. They are:

Ceramic Engineering

Glass Engineering Science

Materials Science and Engineering

The School of Ceramic Engineering and Materials Science offers the Bachelor of Science degree in the three programs listed above. All programs have a common core of required courses. Selection of a particular B.S. degree program occurs at the end of the third semester.

Each program has three objectives

- to help students develop a strong foundation in materials science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and ceramics, glass and materials engineering necessary to a strong professional career
- to develop understanding of the behavior and processing of materials through substantial hands-on laboratory activity using modern instruments and tests
- to prepare students for graduate study in ceramics, glass, or materials programs offered by graduate schools nationwide and abroad.

Each program requires 24 credits in the humanities and social sciences, necessary for breadth in a professional engineering program

Perspectives de l´emploi

One-third of all ceramic engineers in the world have at least one degree from Alfred University.

The NYSCC at Alfred University contains the largest and most diverse Ceramic Engineering faculty and program in the United States.

The graduate programs at the School of Ceramic Engineering and Materials Science emphasize the fundamentals of structure, processing, properties, and characterization. Although the focus has traditionally been on ceramics and glasses, the program has recently expanded to include a multidisciplinary approach to a wider range of materials.

Conditions d´admission/Formation pratique

For all four years, at least one "hands-on" lab is taken each semester.

Students begin taking engineering classes and labs their first semester.
