Gerresheimer AG, one of the world’s leading suppliers to the pharma and healthcare industry, is making targeted investments in emerging markets to achieve growth in its pharmaceutical plastic and glass packaging business. The most recent acquisition is Védat in Brazil, a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical plastic packaging products. Gerresheimer also built a new production plant in Brazil and opened representative offices in India and Russia last year.
“Building our business in emerging markets is a core element of our growth strategy. We hope to increase our sales in emerging markets from currently EUR 100 million to EUR 200 million by the year 2013,” commented Uwe Röhrhoff, Chief Executive Officer of Gerresheimer AG.
Brazil – São Paolo
Védat is excellently positioned in the South American pharmaceutical plastic packaging market. Its product portfolio includes plastic closures, PET bottles and other plastic containers, predominantly for the South American pharma market. Gerresheimer already had pharmaceutical plastic packaging product and medical plastic system manufacturing operations at three plants in Brazil and one plant in Argentina prior to the Védat acquisition.
Brazil - Indaiatuba
The Gerresheimer Group’s new production plant for medical plastic systems in Indaiatuba (Brazil) commenced operations in 2010. The plant manufactures components for insulin pen systems with state-of-the-art technology on the basis of a long-term cooperation agreement with Novo Nordisk.
India - Mumbai
A subsidiary was opened in Mumbai (India) in autumn 2010. It will enable Gerresheimer to drive business with pharmaceutical primary packaging products and drug delivery systems in this growth market. In addition to sales operations, the company is also stepping up its local customer advisory and technical services.
Russia - Moscow
Gerresheimer AG’s representative office in Moscow, which opened in March 2010, will take the group’s pharmaceutical primary packaging and drug delivery systems operations forward in the Russian market.
The Düsseldorf-based Gerresheimer Group has been operating in Russia for many years now and it has many customers there. A local representative office will improve the efficiency of sales processes, customer support and technical services in the Russian market.
