EnduroShield Easy Clean Treatment for Glass has been applied to nearly one million pounds of 1-inch-thick plate glass used in this amazing sculpture at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. Glass Labyrinth is the work of internationally renowned artist Robert Morris, who envisioned clear, undistorted glass for the project. EnduroShield was specified and applied to protect the surface from deterioration, keeping the interactive glass sculpture clean and clear for longer, meeting the artist´s requirements while also saving the museum on maintenance costs.
The installation includes 53 large glass panels which stand 7 feet high that are organised into a triangular maze. The labyrinth walkway pattern with its 4-foot wide lanes and 62-foot glass sides weighs in at over 400 tonnes. The artist himself was blown away by how it all came together.
EnduroShield’s high performance, hydrophobic coating was chosen to protect both sides of the glass sculpture, applied in factory prior to installation at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. EnduroShield is a long lasting treatment that chemically bonds to glass and keeps treated surfaces looking new with minimal maintenance. It provides a real cost saving on cleaning as surfaces stay noticeably cleaner between cleans due to the robust protective treatment shielding the surface from staining and etching.
