Scunthorpe is a top tier COMAH site operating several air separation units on a 24/7 continuous process primarily producing Oxygen, Nitrogen and Argon. The plant is operated from our centralised remote operating centre located in Brinsworth South Yorkshire. Products are distributed in compressed gas form via pipelines to adjacent customers, and in liquid form via road tankers throughout the UK.
Reporting to the Shift Manager the Shift Technicians purpose is to:
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain tonnage supplies (N2, O2 & Ar) to each of the pipeline customers (whether local or remote) within contractual conditions and current demand requirements. This requires regular changes to pipeline flows to accommodate frequent demand changes, sometimes necessitating changing compressor & plant configurations. Plant operation will be lead locally or remotely (ROC).
Maintain trailer supplies of Argon carrying out all connections; pre/post fill analysis and liaison with DPC & PSM as required. This will normally only include 3rd party collects e.g. AP, Air Liquide.
Ensure all plant and machinery is operated efficiently and safely to BOC Standards and Statutory regulations.
Maintain customer contact and service level by handling enquiries for tonnage supplies in collaboration with the ROC.
Ensure production of gaseous and liquid products conforms to ISO9001:2000 quality requirements.
Support the implementation of local site preventative measures and subsequent action in dealing with emergencies and abnormal conditions at the main site, and any satellite sites as required. To be familiar with COMAH scenarios, safety critical tasks and to act as the Emergency Technician in these situations and assists the Incident Controller to implement the local emergency plans.
Inspect and check all operating plant and machinery on a regular basis. Diagnose faults on plant and machinery and provide feedback / raise SAP notifications and work orders for rectification. Operate plant look listen and feel inspections and CBM programmes.
Review daily shift and production reports produced by the ROC and collaboratively evaluate where improvements can be made.
Complete and maintain practical and theoretical training profile as per IMSS/TRACCESS.
Operate plant and equipment where necessary, and provide immediate problem identification and rectification as required. Respond and act on plant change requests from ROC, Shift Manager or Plant Manager.
Prepare plant for maintenance and inspection as required by executing physical isolations, isolations up to limit of job holders authorisation and undertaking atmospheric gas analysis as directed by Shift Manager. To help facilitate the issuing of relevant supporting certificates for Permit to Work activities.
Carry out routine and emergency mechanical, instrument and electrical maintenance up to level of authorisation wherever possible.
Deputise for Shift Manager on occasions (subject to authorisation), during which time full Shift Manager responsibilities are assumed.
Exigences
Required Skills include:
ONC or HNC in an Engineering discipline
Experience of shift team working on a process plant
Operating experience of ASUs and associated equipment.
Knowledge of pipeline customer contracts
Good base knowledge and understanding of BOC, industry and statutory standards and codes of practice.
Good knowledge of Permit to Work procedures and other site initiatives (PGIs, safety critical checks etc
Good basic understanding of current Health, Safety and Environment legislation.
